I’m trying out another level design! And honestly, my feelings on it are… mixed! The first level I did was inspired by a canal, so I wanted to go for something a bit less straightforward.
This one was modeled after a fjord, with the intention of making something a bit more narrow and winding. While it looks neat, there’s a lot less room for the boat to bounce around wildly, which was one of the more fun parts of the original map. I’m not sure I want to go much further with this one.
The other thing I tried out with this map was doing something more visual with the flow of currents. In the first map, there were some slight changes in currents around obstacles, but generally everything flowed one direction, so a visual wasn’t as necessary. But with the winding turns, I figured I might as well try out a shader for running water – something to indicate which way the boat would be going.
At the moment, it’s still a little rough, but I think the concept behind it is sound enough to invest in further. I’m gonna try to clean it up soon.
